Community Groups Throughout San Diego Vote to Oppose the Protect Act

Local community groups, including the La Jolla Town Council, Pacific Beach Town Council, Mission Beach Town Council, and Californians for Equal Rights have all come out in opposition to the Protect Act, a proposed law that would significantly curtail police investigative powers throughout the City of San Diego.

"This just goes to show that the residents of San Diego are not happy about what the Protect Act would promise to bring, and they're willing to make their voice heard on the issue," said Jared Wilson, President of the San Diego Police Officers Association. "These communities are rightfully concerned about the public safety consequences of the Protect Act, and we expect more community groups to follow their lead over the coming weeks and months."

Representatives from the San Diego Police Officers Association continue to speak at various community organizations and town councils throughout the city to explain why the Protect Act is a step in the wrong direction. If you'd like to have a speaker at your local Town Council to discuss the Protect Act, please send us a message.

Please also make your voice heard by contacting Councilmember Marni von Wilpert at 619-236-6655 or MarnivonWilpert@sandiego.gov and tell her to stop the Protect Act!

In addition, contact your District 5 community groups and ask them to oppose the Protect Act!
